Following the submission of nearly 60 abstracts, the Preliminary Programme for the ‘Nordic Flame Days 2017’ (NFD2017) has been published – see flamedays2017.sfrc.se/program.

NFD2017 is organised by the Swedish and Finnish Flame Committees of IFRF, together with the Scandinavian-Nordic Section of the Combustion Institute (CINS), and will be held on 10th-11th October 2017 on the Campus of KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden.  Nordic Flame Days are the Nordic meeting point for everyone involved in combustion and combustion-related processes.  The Flame Days 2017 builds on the success of the Flame Days 2015 held in Copenhagen, and the 2017 meeting also includes a CINS Topical Meeting on ‘Large-Scale Numerical Simulations’ on 11th October and an optional visit to KTH’s Experimental Facilities on 9th October for those that are interested.

Flame Day 1 (10th October) includes keynote addresses from Mikael Odenberger of Chalmers University of Technology on ‘The Role of Combustion in Future Energy Systems’, and Jeanette Obling of DONG Energy on ‘The Phase-out of Coal on DONG’s Power Plants’, followed by parallel sessions on diagnostics/in-flame measurements, fuel flexibility, reaction modelling and optimisation, ash formation and management, heterogeneous sub-models, corrosion and combustion concepts, as well as a presentation on the past, present and future of IFRF.

Flame Day 2 (11th October) includes keynote addresses from Andrea Gruber of SINTEF on ‘Large-scale Numerical Simulations: Present and Future Role in Fundamental and Applied Research’, and Johan Hult of MAN on the ‘The MAN Engine Test Facility – from Lab to Large-scale Laser Diagnostics’, followed by the CINS Topical Meeting (see above) and parallel sessions on modelling, combustion chemistry, diagnostics/in-flame measurements and emission control.

Work presented at the conference will be included in the conference proceedings that will be distributed to attendees during the conference, and authors will be given the opportunity to publish their contribution in the IFRF’s Journal of Industrial Combustion.
